U2’s concert at the Infinite Energy Arena this week broke a new record – one Justin Timberlake set just 16 days prior.
With more than 12,000 people in attendance, the U2 show set the record for the highest grossing single event in the arena’s history, beating the previous record set by Timberlake on May 11 – and one held before that by Paul McCartney, according to arena officials.
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to host a renowned band like U2,” said Joey Dennis, Gas South District’s general manager. “It was an unbelievable show which marked a historic moment for both the venue and for the community.”
U2 and Timberlake are no strangers at the top of the charts.
U2’s 2017 Joshua Tree tour, which included 50 shows, earned more than $316 million in box office revenue from 2.7 million sold tickets worldwide, according to Billboard. The numbers for the Gwinnett show were not made available yet.
Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake, grossed $2,194,486 at the Infinite Energy Arena with 12,149 tickets sold - ranging from $250 to $49.50, according to Venues Now Pulse via Pollstar.
The U2 concert followed a historic year for Infinite Energy Arena, settings records for the most annual major concerts at 25 with a total attendance of more than 300,000 including top touring events like Ed Sheeran, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Kendrick Lamar and Green Day.
The success earned the rankings of 70th worldwide for tickets sales in 2017, according to Pollstar magazine’s year-end Top 200 Arenas.
