The company that is handling the development of the Gas South District property announced Monday that it has hired the man who will oversee leasing at the site.
North American Properties announced it has appointed David Weinert as its partner and senior vice-president of leasing. In his new role, Weinert will lead leasing efforts at North American Properties various projects that are in development.
That includes the 110-acre Gas South District development, as well as the redevelopment of Colony Square in midtown Atlanta and a development in New Jersey.
“Recruiting David Weinert validates the growth and direction of North American Properties as we continue to disrupt, evolve and assign new meaning to retail-driven mixed-use development,” North American Properties Managing Partner Mark Toro said in a statement.
“David strongly believes that our experience-driven mixed-use model, of which Avalon set a new standard in the U.S., is the future of retail. He believes, as do we, that this is the opportunity of an era to deploy a better way to live, work, shop, dine and play.”
Weinert previously handled leasing for Taubman Centers and Westfield Corporation. He oversaw leasing for 12 million square feet of space at Taubman. At Westfield, he launched $2.6 billion in new development programs and also handled new project leasing at World Trade Center and Topanga and The Village.
“I am excited and honored to have this opportunity to work with such incredible people with innovative vision, purpose and passion for retail real estate,” said Weinert. “Together, we will continue to advance and perfect NAP’s award-winning mixed-use formula and introduce the future of retail to the markets we serve.”
The Gwinnett County Convention and Visitors Bureau hired North American Properties to develop portions of the Gas South District property that are currently used for parking. The site is expected to become a mixed-use development with residential, office, retail and dining space, creating an entertainment district around the center.
